Orrim

A world that remembers what you did. Skills grow by use, people keep their hours, and the hidden places are found, not shown.

Coming soon

Orrim will not be free. A living world costs real money to run — the servers, and the AI that will tell its stories and hold its free-form conversations. What it earns keeps the arcade below free, for us and for every independent developer with a cabinet in it.

Want your game on the floor?

Cabinets are free. The bar is not high, but it is a bar, and every submission gets played — and watched — before it gets a marquee.

  1. Nothing that picks a pocket

No ads, no battle pass, no lootbox, no “wait four hours or pay $2.99”. If your game has a monetisation designer, it has one designer too many. We were building this thing before anyone worked out how to charge rent on it, and the parts worth keeping were all free.

  2. Nothing phoning home

No analytics, no ad pixels, no scraping location or contacts, no quietly building a list to sell on. If your game wants to tell somebody about the extended warranty on a car I do not own, don’t bother. And yes — submissions get opened with the network tab up. If it is having a side conversation with anyone, we will see it.

  3. You made it

You, some friends, an AI you argued with at 2am — all fine. What is not fine is a studio with a legal department, because the moment one of those turns up, some indie gets a letter about a word they used. If you can put a lawyer on it, you do not need a free cabinet.

  4. Still breathing

Actively developed. Not finished — nothing here is finished — but not abandoned in 2019 either. A cabinet nobody has touched in two years is a piece of furniture.

  5. Have a mouth on it

Attitude encouraged. Snark strongly encouraged. If your game can make somebody laugh out loud on their third death, you are already ahead of most of what gets shipped with a marketing budget. Corporate voice is the one thing that will actually get you turned down.

Web-based only — it has to run in a browser with no install and no plugin. Everything here is served off one small box, so keep it lean. The contributor kit has the structure, the manifest format, and how the accounts and leaderboard hooks work.

Insert coin Nothing in the arcade costs anything and nothing in it is going to. Orrim is the one exception, and it pays for the rest. The whole arcade runs on one small server; if you feel like covering a month of it, that would be decent of you, and if you don’t, play anyway.
